Do not explain
Say, “I do not share banking information by phone.” You do not owe the caller a conversation.
A little guide made with care
Scammers are skilled at creating fear and urgency. Falling for one does not make you foolish—it makes you human. Next time, give yourself permission to pause.
Show me the golden ruleUnknown caller
“Police Officer”
A real officer does not need your password, PIN, card security code or one-time password to investigate a case.
Say, “I do not share banking information by phone.” You do not owe the caller a conversation.
Caller ID can be faked. Hang up even if the number or story looks convincing.
Call your bank using the number on your card or app. Contact the nearest police station through an official channel.
Know the pattern
Look past the story. Most scams use pressure, secrecy, fear or an offer that feels too good to lose.
They use fear, authority and urgency to make you obey before you can think.
A caller or message claims your account is at risk and asks for a PIN, password or code.
Fake bank, parcel, tax or prize messages lead to a convincing copy of a real website.
Big rewards, guaranteed returns or a job appear—after you first pay a fee.
A new number says someone you love needs money immediately.
Your phone suddenly loses signal while unexpected banking activity begins.
Your 10-second shield
Urgency “Do it now or your account will be closed.”
Secrecy “Do not tell your bank or your family.”
Unusual payment Gift cards, crypto, cash or a transfer to a “safe account.”
1Call your bank immediately using its official number. Ask them to secure or freeze access.
2Change banking and email passwords from a trusted device. Never reuse the old password.
3Save messages, numbers, receipts and screenshots. Report the incident to your bank and NamPol.
Speed matters more than embarrassment. Scammers rely on silence—asking for help is a strong move.
